Interstate narcotics trafficking racket busted in Punjab

The arrest of a large quantity of opium smuggled from Jharkhand by Punjab Police on Friday claimed to have broken an interstate narcotics smuggling ring.

A police team detained two automobiles on Ram Tirath Road and searched them after receiving a tip, officials claimed, finding 17 kg of opium, a revolver, and Rs 1.10 lakh worth of cash.

According to authorities, four people have been arrested under the NDPS Act after the seizure, all of them belong to Amritsar.

During the introductory probe, it was discovered that one of the apprehended suspects was previously involved in a case involving the recovery of 7 kg of opium previous year, according to the police. The officials also added that the complaint was filed at the Beas police station.

The accused is currently imprisoned in Kapurthala jail.

According to authorities, more investigations are being conducted to uncover the entire network of drug suppliers, dealers, and purchasers.

According to police, efforts are being made to identify the entire procurement and supply chain spanning multiple states.
