Punjab reduces power rate in the state by Rs.3 per unit

Punjab Government on Monday has decided to lower power tariffs for domestic consumers by Rs 3 per unit. This move will cost the state exchequer Rs 3,316 crore per year and comes just months before the Assembly elections.

Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi made the statement after the Cabinet meeting.

“For residential consumers, we are decreasing power tariffs by Rs 3 per unit,” Channi said at a press conference here.

He described the move as a “huge Diwali gift” to the people, adding that it will take effect immediately.

People wanted quality and low-cost power, he stated, citing a survey performed by his government. Punjab will hold elections for its state legislature in the first half of next year.
