Punjab would forgive pending electricity payments for defaulters with up to 2 KW connections!

On Wednesday, the Punjab cabinet decided to waive all outstanding power bills for all defaulters with connections up to 2 KW.

This is estimated to cover 80 percent of Punjab’s electricity users. It would be beneficial to consumers who had their connections cut off.

This would cost the state roughly Rs 1,200 crore but will benefit customers in both rural and urban areas. At the tehsil level, committees would be constituted to deal with such issues and verify the beneficiaries. The policy will only apply to unpaid electrical bills from the past.

Chief Minister Charanjit Channi made the announcement at a press conference.

In addition to this, he also announced a system to combat the sand mafia, stating that a new mining policy would be introduced soon.
