Tourists return to Amritsar as Beating Retreat ceremony starts again
The sacred city is once again overflowing with tourists from the surrounding districts, ten days after the famous Border Security Force (BSF) Beating Retreat ceremony was resumed.
As a result, weekend occupancy has doubled when compared to weekdays. Weekend tourists used to sustain the hospitality economy, according to Piyush Kapoor, general manager of the city’s oldest hotel restaurant.
During the weekend, room occupancy reaches 80 percent, compared to 35 to 40 percent during the weekdays. “It breathed new energy into the hospitality business, which had been battling to recover from Covid-related losses.”
Domestic tourists are the sole contributors in helping things return to normal, according to travel industry experts, as all scheduled international commercial passenger flights are suspended until September 30.
