According to sources, several Congress leaders who are close to Navjot Singh Sidhu are urging him to reconsider his decision of stepping down as the Chief of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee.
Kuljit Nagra, Inderjit Bularia, Razia Sultana, and Kulwinder Danny are among the senior Congress officials meeting with Sidhu at his ancestral house in Patiala, Yadavindra Enclave. Pargat Singh, a Jalandhar Cantt MLA who has recently been sworn as Minister for the very first time, is also speculated to have attending the meeting.
According to sources, some 100 senior Congress party officials are likely to show up at his Patiala home and offer their own resignations in support of Sidhu. An MLA expressed concern about the possibility of splintering within the party.
His decision to retire was kept a secret, according to close aides.
A group of Congress MLAs has written to Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, requesting that he “strictly ask party leaders not to promote groupies.”, according to sources.
