Government of Punjab to waive unsettled water bills of consumers

In a meeting conducted on Monday, the Punjab Cabinet resolved to waive all unsettled water bills in rural and urban regions, as well as announce a monthly flat fee of Rs 50 per connection.

The renounce in water bills for rural areas will cost the state Rs 1,200 crore, while the same for urban areas will cost Rs 700 crore, according to CM Charanjit Singh Channi.

According to CM Channi, while there would be no water fee for plots up to 125 square yards, all other groups of consumers will pay a monthly rate of Rs 50 per connection.

The state government would cover the power expenses of public health tubewells producing drinkable water in rural and urban regions in the future, according to the Cabinet.
