Protest outbreak in Jalandhar as ‘Reckless’ Cop runs his car over 2 women, 1 casualty

On Monday morning, two women were knocked over by a car driven by a policeman at Dhanowali village on the Jalandhar-Phagwara route. One of the women aged, 22, died instantly on the scene, while the other one was severely injured in the accident.

Navjot Kaur of Dhanowali village is the one who died on the spot. Her friend Mamta aged, 30, who also belongs to Dhanowali village is presently admitted in an ICU at the city hospital.

Inspector Amrit Pal, a Hoshiarpur native who is currently stationed in Harike Pattan, was driving a Brezza vehicle (PB07-BU0112). A charge was filed against the cop at the Jalandhar Cantonment police station just hours after the event.

Angry villagers, on the other hand, blocked the Jalandhar-Phagwara highway for several hours until lifting it late in the afternoon. Navjot’s father works as a daily wage earner and his mother is a stay-at-home mom. She is the youngest of four sisters, one of whom is disabled.

After learning of her demise, her family was taken aback. Neighbors, on the other hand, said that the household was mostly supported by Navjot’s work because her father was rarely at home due to his illness.
