Immigration Pact, Will U.S Global Entry Programme include India?
Remember the time when Shahrukh Khan, the Bollywood superstar was held up at the airport and frisked because American authorities felt that his name resembled that of a name listed on the watch list? This was not a comfortable feeling for India and a few more incidents like this have led to US and India working in tandem to come out with a pact. The meeting was targeted towards the agreement of the different categories of Indians who could travel to US without immigration checks. Reports have confirmed that in this discussion names of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, former President Pratibha Patil, industrialists Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani and Bollywood stars Shahrukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan were particularly mentioned. A source has revealed that “The US has been pressing for India’s inclusion in the Global Entry so that high dignitaries, frequent flyers and top industrialists could visit America without any hassle.
The people who are included in the global entry list programme have to go directly to the Global Entry kiosks to hand over their passports that can be read by a machine or they hand over their US permanent resident card to the authorities. Their identification will be complete, when they get their fingerprints scanned and verified, and when they finally go for the customs declaration. After taking the transaction receipt, the traveler can take his baggage and move for the exit.
The people who will get approval in the Global entry list should not have their name be involved in any money laundering case and neither should they possess a criminal record. Americas Global Entry programme includes 7 countries namely Panama, Peru, The Netherlands, Mexico, South Korea, Germany, and Canada. Reports are saying that Brazil and India may enjoy the benefits of the Global Entry programme by next year.
