Amazon Geared Up For Festival Season Mega Sale

Global behemoth Amazon.com is leaving no stone unturned to cash in on the upcoming festival season in India. In the last one year, the biggest online retailer in the world has increased its warehousing capacity by three times.

The U.S. based retailer has also lined up 1 million products for next day delivery as it gears to take on India-based e-retailer Flipkart head-on.

Needless to say, when such giants try to command a bigger chunk of the market share, the consumer is the biggest beneficiary. Amit Agarwal, head of Amazon in India, acknowledged this reality. . .

“It would be great deals for customers, ensuring that sellers have a blockbuster time, ensuring that we provide a great experience — we believe that this will be the greatest sale India has ever seen,” Amit was quoted as saying in The Economic Times.

While the company official stopped short of divulging the exact deals and discounts that Amazon would offer, he disclosed that a kilogram of gold was up for grabs. It will be given to winners on each of the sales days who shop through the Amazon app.

In addition to the metropolitan cities and Tier I cities, Amazon has been able to penetrate the Tier II and Tier III cities which accounted for 60 percent of the consumers during the last two mega sales organized by the company.

Amazon, as also the other e-commerce companies have been criticized by the small mom-and-pop stores and local karyana dealers for indulging in unfair business activities and using foreign exchange to fund massive discounts in the country.
