17,140 Posts! SBI Clerk Recruitment 2016 Cancelled?
In what could prove to be a perfect nightmare for lakhs of aspirants who have applied for the SBI Clerk Recruitment 2016, a bank job aspirant has filed a suit in the Madras High Court pleading for a cancellation of the for the SBI Clerk Recruitment 2016 notification.
The aspirant, S. Gurukrishna Gokul, through his Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed on May 25th, 2016 demands elimination of one eligibility norm.
SBI has issued a recruitment notification inviting applications for filling up 17,140 posts of Junior Assistant (Clerical) jobs. According to the eligibility criteria, any candidate guilty of default in repayment of loans should be debarred from taking the examination and thus should not be eligible for the exam.
However, in his petition, Gokul claims, “This condition will prevent a large number of economically and socially backward candidates from applying for the posts. If they were appointed, after selection process, they would be able to repay the loans.”
He further added that instead of creating and providing employment opportunities for candidates, the norms worsen the situation and create more educational loan defaulters.
Let’s see if the court cancels the notification and issues a new notification with broader eligibility criteria.
