Five new Punjab and Haryana High Court judges take the oath of office!

After their elevation, five lawyers from the Punjab and Haryana High Court will be sworn in as judges.

Vikas Suri, Vinod Sharma Bhardwaj, Pankaj Jain, Jasjit Singh Bedi, and Sandeep Moudgil are among the lawyers who will be sworn in.

With their promotion, the number of Judges will increase to 50 from the previously sanctioned 85.

These names were approved for promotion by the Supreme Court collegium in the month of September. The Centre forwarded the names in the month of April earlier this year.

This year, seven judges have stepped down, with another set to do so in December. In the coming year, five more Judges will step down.

Under the circumstances, the problem of plenty remains a source of worry for the High Court. More than 4 lakh cases are pending in the High Court, according to the National Judicial Data Grid, a monitoring tool for identifying, managing, and reducing case pendency.
