Nestle India turns generous! Chennai gets ‘Maggi’ help

Finally, Maggi takes over and does a good deed. We are not going to associate Maggi with the word “ban” only, from now onwards. Nestle India has extended a helping hand to the rain-devastated Chennai.

The Government may have stared sternly at the alleged “lead-containing” Maggi a few months ago but Maggi is back with a “helpful” bang. Nestle India has booked a place as one of the top food and beverage suppliers for the Chennai people, who have been ravaged because of floods. Along with some other food supplies, Nestle has provided the Tamil Nadu Government with its “two minutes Maggi” packets for relief operations.maggi_2509704f

Harsimrat Kaur Badal, the minister for food processing industries has stated that it should be ensured that milk; bottled water and packaged food products are available in plenty for the people. She has stated “It is time to stand up and make exemplary contribution for the flood affected people of Chennai who have been patronizing food brands and products manufactured by the industry.” The ministry is said to be in coordination with nearly 8 food processing companies who will be providing packaged milk, water and packaged food at Chennai’s Nehru Indoor Stadium to the Tamil Nadu Government.

Nestle India is included in the list and it has come out with 10 MT of Maggi noodles, 50000 coffee pouches and 5000 liters of tetra milk packs. The ministry has also confirmed “Further additional quantity approximately 25-30 MT of noodles, about 8 MT Munch and Sunrise Biscuits 800 Kgs is also being supplied.”

FSSAI , the central food regulator had banned Maggi for the presence of lead and the MSG content ( taste enhancer) and had stated that these two ingredients were beyond the permissible limits. The noodles had been recently launched after the ban was lifted by the courts. ITC has handed over almost 3163 biscuit boxes each in 6 truckloads and MTR has given 14128 food packets that are ready to eat and by Monday MTR plans to hand over 35000 ready-to-eat food packets more.

On Sunday, Britannia supplied 3 truckload of 345 biscuit boxes and will be supplying 2 truckloads of food items shortly to the Tamil Nadu Government. Pepsico and Coca Cola India has also supplied thousands of water bottles and Parle is ready to dispatch a biscuit load, say reports.
