Delhi welcomes Jet Airways flight from Brussels
A jihadist attack shook the Belgian Capital recently and the Brussels airport saw two nerve wracking explosions on Tuesday Morning. Nearly 14 people died, and many more were injured in the blasts. Barely had people gathered their wits that 20 people were reported dead at a metro station blast in the same city. On Thursday, about 6 people were rounded up by the Police in random raids. The Tuesday blasts had left thousands stranded in Brussels. A Jet Airways flight 9W 1229 from Amsterdam, was stuck up with almost 24 passengers. The flight has reached Delhi safe and sound with all passengers on board.
Two airline crew members from India, sustained injuries at the Brussels airport because of the explosions, and they are undergoing treatment at a hospital in Brussels. Nidhi Chaphekar , a flight attendant, with a fractured foot and 15% burns, is in medically induced coma for treatment purposes. She has been declared safe. Jet Airways operates about 4 flights at Brussels and all four of them had touched down when the dreaded explosions took place.
People were offered assistance by local authorities via camps, though the Indian Embassy had refused to take any responsibility for them. Passengers have also reported that they had been left out to grapple with the cold for a few hours. According to a passenger “The departure area of the airport was completely destroyed. Hundreds of people were running out for shelter. There was blood everywhere. We were really scared.”
After the Tuesday blasts in Brussels , many Indians had been abandoned in Belgium. A Jet airways flight carrying 214 passengers, from Amsterdam, was headed to Mumbai with a Delhi stop-over. Nearly 70 passengers were from Delhi and the flight arrived in Delhi at about 5.10 early this morning.
A welcome tweet from Jet Airways on Friday brought a smile to the faces of the anxious relatives “A big welcome to our guests! Flight 9W 1229 from Amsterdam has landed at Delhi,” it said. There were about 28 crew members also included in the stranded people and after disembarking at the airport early morning, the flight took its scheduled tour to Mumbai.
