Famous former Indian cricketer and politician Navjot Singh Sidhu made some major news this week when he decided to quit his position as a Rajya Sabha MP. The announcement shocked everyone in the country and caused a major uproar.
Sidhu was recently promoted as an MP in Rajya Sabha, and merely two months later he has bid a goodbye to the chair and vacated the position, stunning everyone.
Many rumors and controversies surrounded Sidhu’s nomination, as an MP for Rajya Sabha, from the beginning. Reports from various news sources claim that Sidhu was nominated for the position in order to put him off from joining Aam Aadmi party. The Indian Express is reporting that Navjot Singh Sidhu is considering joining AAP party after his recent departure. The newspaper also reported that in “addition to Sidhu quitting his position, his wife Navjot Kaur, who is serving as the parliamentary secretary may also give her resignation”.
A statement was released from Navjot Singh Sidhu’s side in which he commented, “With the closure of every window leading to Punjab, the purpose stands defeated. It is now a mere burden, I prefer not to carry it.’’ He also said, ‘’ In the war of right or wrong, you cannot afford to be neutral rather than being self-centred. Punjab’s interest is paramount.”
as no official comment has been received from Sidhu, regarding rumors of him joining AAP party, we consider these recent comments as speculation but the rumblings ramped up with the shocking tweet by Arvind Kejriwal. The Current Chief minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal tweeted , ‘’ People can give their Rt hand for an RS seat. Ever seen a sitting RS MP resigning to save his state? I salute Sidhu ji for his courage.’’
It is not surprising that Sidhu joining AAP party will give the Political party the boost it needs for the upcoming assembly elections, 2017 in Punjab. As of now, it looks like this is just the beginning of some major changes that will unfold in the weeks to come.
