PM Modi tough on Kashmir issue, separatist group unhappy

Till now he had been lying low and reserving his comments. But now Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a strong stand on the Kashmir crisis and his focus is on ending the unrest in the State.

PM Modi’s strong stand on the Kashmir issue has left a Separatist group unhappy and they gave a statement saying that Kashmir is not India’s internal issue.

On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with the national party leaders to chalk out methods to end the unrest in Kashmir that had paralyzed the valley in the last few weeks. An upset separatist group has stated that no peace is possible until the Politicians of India “stop treating this as an internal issue”. The Kashmir valley with areas under Pakistan and India, had been gripped in the throes of fear , bloodshed, violent protests and curfew after Hizbul commander Burhan Wani , had been killed by the Indian forces in an encounter on July 8th.

The fight for sovereignty of Kashmir continues and this has also led to the suspension of mobile connectivity from this Thursday evening. The opposition leaders had demanded a meeting with the Regional leaders regarding this, but Mr . Modi has emphatically stated that the time for negotiations is over and it’s time to focus on National security issues.

Reports have confirmed that almost 54 protestors have been killed since July this year, and the temper of one of the two sections of the Hurriyat Conference, runs on unabated. The faction chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has stated “Unless there is an acknowledgement among all political parties in India that Kashmir is a dispute and not an internal issue and has to be addressed accordingly, there is very little chance of the situation improving or real peace returning.”

PM Modi said in his speech that “There cannot be any compromise on national security, but we have to win the confidence of the people in Jammu and Kashmir,” and he blamed the condition on cross-border terrorism. He further stated, “foreign ministry should get in touch with expats from 420312-modi living in various parts of the world, gather information from them on the pitiable condition in the region and let the global community know about it.”

Modi’s government has not encouraged any talks with Hurriyat or other groups that dispute India’s claim till now. Pakistan has rejected the allegations that it has anything to do with these militants. On Friday, the lower house of Parliament has made a resolution to assure peace in Kashmir but is this possible with the divergent voices and Government talking a different language?
