Pay up for call drops, service operators, says TRAI

You will surely get compensation for the irritating call drops now. TRAI has instructed the mobile operators to take care of the user by crediting one rupee per call drop, and the user will get compensation for just three call drops a day from Jan 1st, 2016.

Sometimes in the middle of the conversation or call pick up the phone is disconnected and the connection is cut. This interruption where the talk is left incomplete is called a call drop. Within 4 hours of the call drop, SMSes will be sent to the user, and the amount credited will show in the next bill of the post paid user, announces the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India.call drop

The harassed customers are irritated at the constant call dropping and demand compensation for this harassment, but the operators may not be a thrilled lot at this suggestion, say the authorities. TRAI had laid down certain standards for the operators, but Mumbai and Delhi users are a hassled lot. Since the announcement, there has been no significant improvement in call dropping and this lax is not acceptable.

Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of the Country had asked the service operators to fix the issue at once, as this was causing distress to the common man. Vittorio Colao, CEO of the Vodafone Group, is apologetic for these call drops and has stated “I am really sorry about the fact that there are (call) drops in India at the level where we would not like them to be. It’s linked to amount of spectrum that we have, it’s linked to the ease of getting permits, right of ways.”

Though, he has stated that call drop compensation is an unheard practice. The stakeholders, consumer groups and mobile operators had been consulted by TRAI over the call drop issue. It’s no surprise that TRAI has stated, that none of the top operators, Aircel, Airtel, Vodafone, in Mumbai are meeting the customer requirements and Delhi suffers the same fate. Next week the operators may see a quality of service paper issued by TRAI, to find out the call drop reasons.
