She made history at the age of 23 years. That is the brave and fearless Neerja Banot, unknown to so many. Bollywood dug into history and has promised to immortalize her life for the public soon, through the Ram Madhvani directed “Neerja”, that will be hitting the theatres today.
The biopic directed by Ram Madhvani is based on the life of the brave stewardess , Neerja Banot, who gave up her life trying to save the passengers on board the hijacked “PAN AM CLIPPER 73” is hitting the theatres today. The role of Neerja Banot is being played by none other than the suave ad sophisticated Sonam Kapoor. There may be a string of Bollywood movies all lined for the theatres but the most intriguing and awaited out of them is “Neerja”.
Neerja is based on the life of a 23 year old stewardess who sacrificed her life to save the life of the passengers on Pan Am Clipper 73, which had been hijacked. Speaking about her character, Sonam Kapoor stated , “I realized this was someone I can look at as someone who is aspirational. And we do not have enough aspirational strong female heroes. She saved everyone’s life. She did not differentiate between an Indian, an American, a Pakistani’s life, and that is what a true Indian is. We are the largest democracy and if you know the true definition of a democracy is you will understand what I mean: we are secular; we are the only country in the history of the world that hasn’t invaded another country. So all these things put together, she is a true definition of what India stands for.”
Other movies lined up for release are “Direct Ishq” by Director Pankaj Batra and “Ishq Forever” by Sameer Sippy, Films from down South include Miruthan Sethupathi, and Krishnashtami. Hollywood is also ready for its share of releases today and you have a wide choice to choose from , I will personally head for the theatres to peek a glance at the brave-dom shown by a 23 year old fearless girl!
