Bihar goes alcohol ‘dry’! Crime rate, road accidents fall
Nitish Kumar, Chief Minster smiles! Bihar has shown a positive improvement this year. The crime rate has fallen and there is no alcohol consumption permitted in the state. Almost 3,178 heinous crime cases had been reported from Bihar from April 1st to April 23rd last year, and this figure has fallen to almost 2,328 at the same time, this year. This is a fall of almost 27%, which is an appreciable figure, say the reports.
It seems that the total prohibition of alcohol in the State of Bihar has actually done the trick- it has managed to reduce the crime rate in Bihar. A high level meeting was recently organized by Nitish Kumar, Chief Minister of Bihar and officials hailing from about six Patna districts. The senior officials from Patna, Bhojpur, Nalanda, Rohtas, Bhabua, and Buxar districts confirmed that a fall of almost 27% had been noted in the month of April from 1st to 23rd, since the crime rates recorded last year.
This fact was confirmed by Anand Kishore Commissioner Patna division, during the meeting and this was an effort to “take stock of situation in the wake of promulgation of total ban on liquor in the state on April 5 last,” said the official statement.
The death incidents caused by rash and negligent driving, on the roads has also been brought down after the imposing of the ban. The State has been declared as totally dry and because of this the agitation caused by communal procession has also seen a reduction. Nitish Kumar had announced his decision for turning Bihar into a dry state from the Apr 1st and he is making all the efforts to make sure that his endeavor of the ‘dry’ state is successful.
The CM inquired about the raids that had been conducted to make sure that the alcohol prohibition was put into action and was also inquisitive about the de-addiction camps. He asked about the people who were arrested under the recently introduced “Excise law” at the meeting. To catch the people red-handed with the liquor bottles the State has recently seen the introduction of plenty of barriers and check post with police personnel on duty, as ordered by the CM.
