Passengers escape death! Singapore airlines flight catches fire at Changi airport
Passengers aboard a Singapore airlines plane, the SIA Flight SQ368, had a close brush with death today. The flight was heading towards Milan and it caught fire during an emergency landing, confirm reports. There were about 19 crew members and almost 222 passengers on board the flight, when the pilot announced that they would be making an “emergency landing at Changi airport”.
The SIA Flight SQ368 was enroute to Milan from the Changi airport and it started at about 2.05 AM, early Monday morning. According to the reports made by the Channel News Asia, Two hours had passed and the shocked passengers heard the pilot made an announcement that the plane was to return back to Singapore, because of a problem detected in the engine. The plane’s control had presumably been flashing an engine oil warning message.
Passengers managed to escape death and were shell shocked in fear when they realized that their plane had caught fire. Mamta Jain one of passenger’s wife gave a statement that the engine of the plane “exploded and the right wing was burning” during the emergency landing. Jain gave a statement about her husband’s experience and said “The pilot announced during the flight there was a problem with one of the engines that they would turn back. When they landed he said engine was on fire, he could see flames. They were all inside the plane and they could see the right wing burning.” After the landing the passengers were ” disembarked through stairs and were transported to the terminal building by bus,’ reported the daily.
At about 7 AM, the
landed in Singapore and the fire was doused out with no casualties reported by the airport emergency services. The passengers would be departing for Milan by another aircraft later in the day and the Singapore airline has promised to provide full cooperation to the authorities in the investigative procedures.
A passenger on board the SIA Flight SQ368 has also posted a video of about 49 seconds and a description of the whole incident on Face book as well. “I just escaped death!!!!” was what Lee Bee Yee, wrote on his FB account. He also stated that the plane showed leaking oil warnings and after 3 hours flying off, the plane was turned to the city-state airport and on landing tongues of flame engulfed the right engine. On the contrary the SIA official stated that the plane was ‘one hour and 45 minutes into the flight when it turned back.”
