AIFF to recommend Sunil Chhetri’s name for Khel Ratna Award

AIFF to propose sunil chhetri's name for khel ratna award and Bala Devi's name for Arjuna award.

Sunil Chhetri’s name will be put forward for India’s highest athletic accolade, the Rajiv Gandhi khel ratna award, by the All India Football Federation (AIFF). Rajiv Gandhi, the former Prime Minister of India who served from 1984 to 1989, is honoured with this award.

Sunil Chhetri’s name has been recommended by AIFF, but no official documentation has been presented yet.

Sunil Chhetri is an Indian footballer who was born in the state of Andhra Pradesh. He is the captain of both the Indian national team and Bengaluru FC, a team in the Indian Super League. On the field, he plays as a winger or striker and is nicknamed “Captain Fantastic.” He is the most capped player and top goal scorer in the national team’s history.

He scored twice against Bangladesh in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, surpassing international player Lionel Messi. After Ronaldo, Messi, and Ali Mabkhout, he is the world’s fourth top goal scorer.

He has already won the Arjuna award in 2011 and the Padma Shri award in 2019. He has played 118 Indian matches, scoring 74 goals.

The All India Football Federation, on the other hand, endorses Bala Devi for the Arjuna award.

Ngangom Bala Devi is a female footballer from India. She has represented her country in almost 50 matches. She joined Rangers in January of last year and plays for the Scottish Women’s Premier League.

Mithali Raj, the Indian women’s ODI and test captain, and Ravichandran Ashwin are both candidates for the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award, according to the BCCI.

For the first time, the khel ratna prize was given to five athletes last year. The awards will be presented on August 29th, which is National Sports Day. However, due to the safety of covid, recipients will not be attending in person.
