India has got her first fencer Bhavani devi. She is the first indian fencer to qualify for olympics after qualifying for summer olympics 2020. She was born on 27 August 1993 and is currently 27 years old.
She is ranked 36 in the world.
She was born in Tamil Nadu, India. Her father is an hindu preist and her mother is an home maker. Bhavni started playing fencing in 2003. She is playing under Rahul Dravid Athlete Programe. In 2004, she was introduced to fencing in her school. After class 10th she joined SAI ( sports authority of india). At the age of 14 she went for her first tournament in Turkey.
In 2010 asian championship she bagged bronze medal.
Now she is representing India in olympics 2022 in tokyo, japan showing incredible performance. She started her game strong but lost to world number three Manon Brunet.
She plays Sabre which is fastest type of fencing than normal one. Where you can slash your component anywhere above the waist.
The Chennai fencer said she has gained valuable experience from her Tokyo outing, which will help her in future challenges.
