Deskbound chair sitting for hours, may cause liver disease- says study
Inactive lifestyle is not healthy is a well-known fact. Sitting on the chair for long hours is bad news for the heart and now a new study claims that lack of physical activity and deskbound behavior by sitting on the chairs for a long time, has a detrimental effect on the liver. Sedentary behavior has shown a link with fatty liver disease in non-alcoholics in a recent study on Koreans.
A huge study sample of middle aged Koreans, has shown that our chairs are capable of killing us. A prolonged inactive attitude of sitting on chairs can cause NAFLD or non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. The researchers have concluded that it is a must to increase physical activity and reduce time sitting on the chairs, to stay healthy.
People are stated to spend more than half the day in activities like sitting in front of the laptop or television or other technological devices. Researchers have always claimed that physical activity on a regular basis, can taper down mortality and incidents of chronic diseases diagnosis in people.
In this present study, Seungho Ryu , the Lead investigator of the study, from Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine has emphatically stated that long-drawn-out sitting time and a lack of daily physical activity level were independently associated with increasing prevalence of NAFLD. This fact also held true for people with less than 23 BMI or Body Mass Index, and the investigations were concluded from tests performed on a large number of middle aged Koreans.
Details of the study can be read in the Journal of Hepatology.
