Cheap Foreign education lures! Be careful

Every parent aspired for a good foreign institute to give admission to their children but what happens if the Institute you have enrolled for your higher education is not what you thought it to be? There are plenty of Indian employers who prefer to hire people who have studied abroad but what about job security for those students who enroll in courses that in reality are being pursued from unrecognized schools?

There have been institutes in USA that are blacklisted or marked for visa fraud, and this knowledge makes the student insecure regarding the official degree and the admissions. A few days ago, some students got the shock of their lives when they were stopped by the customs and denied entry into America. On this immigration issue, the American embassy has stated, “We remind the public that even travelers with a visa can be denied entry if the immigration officer finds reason to question the legitimacy of their travel documents or finds the traveler cannot adequately answer questions about the purpose of his or her travel.”

The ideal way to get sufficient information about US educational institutions is to refer to the free service endowed by Education USA i.e. educationusa.state.gov. The official website and Education USA’s centres provides assistance to students and helps them choose the proper school to pursue education.

In 2014-15, the Indian students in US were about 130,000, and this showed an increase of almost 30% than students enrolled in 2013-14. The official educational consultants also provide proper information regarding the course, accreditation of the institute, infrastructure, facilities, international tie-ups, faculty and entire information the student needs to know about the institute itself.

Adarsh Khandelwal, co-founder at a consulting firm for study abroad, Collegify, confirmed that there were hundreds of fraudulent ventures and “Private universities are not all scams but enough are that I’d be suspicious of any programme not run directly through an accredited university, with its affiliated faculty.” The best way to check on the genuinity of an institute is to look through the research work done by them and the research articles published, say the experts.

Khandelwal confirmed that counterfeit universities falsely claim their accreditations and one needs to “Carefully check any claims about links with public universities, as bogus universities claim to have a ‘special relationship’ or ‘partnership’ with a public university or even ‘accreditation’ by the university but this may be false or over-stated.”

There are ‘agents’ in connivance with these institutes and it’s their job to get student enrolments. So be careful if any agency promises you cheap study, in the long run you may have spent your precious study hours over nothing and you may have a certification that is without any value. He also said that these universities may be offering vague educational pursuits like US edu” and also do not promise anything to do with visas or housing facilities.

Britain has often experienced de-listing of their fraud universities and Canada and US have also been named in bogus education, so you need to get vigilant in your selection. It’s no fun trying for citizenship for US through these educational institutions as you may end up getting blacklisted in the eyes of the immigration authorities. Try to stick to the tier-1 institutions, say the consultants!
