Breastfeeding benefits mother’s health too
While motherhood is a joyful time for a mother mentally, it is equally a rough time for her physically. In the course of bringing up her baby, mother’s own health often gets overlooked. A new mom is often advised on how important it is to breastfeed the baby and various other suggestions on how to raise a child.
Recently, France Bégin, Senior Nutrition Adviser from UNICEF also commented on the importance of breastfeeding, claiming that if a baby is not breastfed for more than 24 hours from birth, it increases baby’s chance of death by 80%. As true as that statement is, nobody seems to mention the importance of breastfeeding
on mother’s own health.
Many fail to realize that as much as breastfeeding has health benefits for the baby, it has equal benefits mothers too.
As per a recent article posted by Web MD, they listed out several advantages of breastfeeding, they commented on how it helps in burning calories in women’s body which can help her lose pregnancy weight. Also, Breastfeeding is known to release hormone oxytocin which aids uterus return back to its previous size.
Many scientific studies also revealed some other perks of breastfeeding, with many studies claiming breastfeeding reduces the chances of ovarian and breast cancer in the mother.
Breastfeeding is also known to lower the chances of heart-related issues. Moreover, it also reduces high blood pressure and high cholesterol in the mother, the chances of contracting those diseases becomes high after pregnancy .
The benefits do not end there, many researchers are of the belief that breastfeeding acts as a natural contraceptive. In addition to that, there is no need to spend on expensive breast pumps and face any sterilizing problems.
UNICEF recently posted an article on breastfeeding on their official website, and elucidated on some other health benefits, they said breastfeeding reduces the chances of type 2 diabetes and reducing Postpartum depression in mothers.
Every mother should celebrate this World Breastfeeding Week knowing that the boon they are giving by breastfeeding their baby for a healthy future, is a blessing in disguise for them too.
