Chemists and druggists plan one-day Nationwide stir on October 14th

Stock up the essential medicines now as you may not get to see any chemist shop open on the October 14th. October 14th has been announced as a “one-day stir”, by the chemists nationwide. The protest has been organized by all druggists and chemists across India and this is their way of raising their voice against online medicine sales.

A whopping number of chemists are planning a strike on the October 14th and N Anandhan , secretary of Tamil Nadu Chemists and Druggists Association, has confirmed that “Around eight lakh chemists across India, 40,000 in Tamil Nadu will participate in the strike supporting the protest.” This stir has been initiated in connivance with the, All India Organization of Chemists and Druggists (AIOCD). The Tamil Nadu Chemists and Druggists Association are affiliated to the Apex body.

chemists.cmsHe stated that the sale of online medicines is not judicially permitted, and people can misuse this availability, as they can buy medicines in bulk and that too without proper prescription by the doctors. He gave a statement to the PTI saying, “We want to seek the central government’s attention on this issue and therefore planned to go for stir.”

Talking about the sale of medicines that is carried out through online dealing, Anandhan stated that these online outlets attach with existing pharmacies to sell their medicines. He feared that,”If some medicine needs to be sold based on prescriptions, forged medical prescriptions can be uploaded just to buy them.” To oppose these policies the Chemists and Druggists have decided to show their displeasure through a countrywide stir.
