Samsung soup? Google digs out 11 security flaws in Galaxy S6 Edge
Shocking and unwelcome! Google has shocked the Samsung lovers by digging out 11 security flaws in Samsung’s Galaxy 6S Edge. This vulnerability highlighting by Google had Samsung gear up to find ways to fix the issues right away but still some issues need to be looked into.
The security flaws in the flagship device Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge means that hackers can misuse the data and gain control of the smart phone. This means that the watertight Google’s watertight operating system is threatened by the bugs that have “significantly weakened the security”.
A security researcher at University College London, Dr Steven Murdoch, has confirmed that “There is definitely a tension between Google and the handset manufacturers because Google wants to protect its Android brand, and when it comes to security, Android has been quite tarnished. Some of that is down to the extra software that handset manufacturers add.”
Samsung has issued a statement saying that the remaining security flaws will be going through a security update in the later part of this month to fix the bug. The company has confirmed that customers needs are topmost and “Maintaining the trust of our customers is a top priority.”
There have been reports of hijacked emails and the users messages have been stolen and added to the hackers account. The email software of Samsung has been compromised and the team has blogged that “Over the course of a week, we found a total of 11 issues with a serious security impact. The majority of these issues were fixed on the device we tested via an OTA [over the air] update within 90 days. It is promising that the highest severity issues were fixed and updated on-device in a reasonable time frame.”
Another weakness that has been detected is the Samsung’s photo-viewing app that can be altered by messing with the settings and this is done by transferring a specially encoded image to the handset. According to Google the issue most concerning was that if the software got messed with malicious data then the other functions on the system and the files inside could be altered. Samsung has insisted that the software and apps should be updated regularly to avoid this issue. Get the updates now; you don’t want your phone taken over by the hackers, do you?
