Deepika who has her hands full with her Hollywood debut opposite Vin Diesel – “The Return of Xander Cage”, clambered onto stage with fashionable panache and read out a loving letter from her father Prakash Padukone , the ace badminton player. Tears ran uncontrollable from her eyes when she read out the emotional letter from her daddy dearest!

Prakash Padukone had highlighted his childhood journey in sports that had begun from Bangalore, where he had faced many difficulties in pursuing his dream. He highlights the fact that he bore each moment of chasing his sports passion happily and without complaint. He insisted that he wants his children to know that “there is no substitute for perseverance, hardwork, determination and passion for what you choose to do. If you love what you do, nothing else matters — neither awards nor compensation, not even the gratification of seeing your face in newspapers or television. When I won the All England Championship, the prize money in badminton became significant — £3,000 — a huge amount in those days.”

He told Deepika about his insecurity when she had decided to take up modelling in Mumbai but felt that she needs to explore the call of her heart. He insists that he and his wife offer unconditional love and support for their children and success is not a part of the deal. People win some battles and lose some but it is the effort that counts.

He has explained “I focused on what I had, instead of dwelling on what I did not. I had the ability to make the best of the worst circumstances and remain steadfast to my goal,” and asked them to rise along the ladder on their own mantle rather than wait for their parents to help them succeed. He appreciates her positive nature and down to earth attitude, by saying she always remains their daughter first and a star later.

“Arc lights will eventually fade and what will remain is the real world. Strive to generate positivity around you even though you are too new and too small a player to effect a big change. You are in an industry where there’s always going to be big money, but I believe that it is important to try to be the best in whatever you do regardless of the money.” Insisting on listening to the conscience, doing meditation and having clarity of thought he said that it is honesty, respect and relationships that bring peace and happiness.
