Nearly 12 samples and swab tests have been sent to the laboratory to confirm swine flu. Till then the patients have to patiently bear absence of trained staff who work at the ventilators and who help treat patients. The Health Department is ready for suspected and confirmed swine flu cases and has stocked up tamiflu in adequate quantities. They are prepared to treat people at primary and community health care centres.

News reports stated that Dr Rajpal, an Epidemiologist said, “Two deaths have been reported, including one from Goniana. The other patient who died in Bathinda belonged to Mansa. Till now, about four cases have been reported positive while 12 samples have been taken for swab test. We believe only in the reports of PGIMER.”

Dr Rajpal Singh has confirmed, “We have all the facilities to deal with patients of swine flu, including medicines and masks. Children, pregnant women and people with medical problems such as chronic lung disease, asthma, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and immunosuppression or with weak immune system and adults with obesity are more prone to swine flu as they lack strong immunity.”

Mass awareness schemes, paramedical staff and auxiliary nursing midwives help and response teams have been created to deal with the disease caused by the H1N1 virus in the area.
