Malignant Cancerous Tumour with Sugar: study

A great news for the patients suffering from cancer! Latest findings confirms that ordinary sugar could be instrumental in preventing tumours. Researchers from Swedish have found a latest magnetic imaging technique that will use ordinary sugar to determine the malignancy of tumours in cancer patients.sugar.jpg.resize.1400.601.medium

Researchers decided to combine the latest imaging technique with the testing of ordinary sugar as a substitute of metal in contrast agents. In result, cancerous cells consume greater sugar than surrounding tissue. Linda Knutsson, Associate Professor at Lund University in Sweden has claimed a breakthrough discovery, and stated, “If sugar replaces metal as a contrast agent in the body, it can also have a positive psychological effect and make patients calmer”.

This is the first technique to use non synthetic contrast agent in human magnetic resonance tomography examinations. The scientists used this technique to treat three people who were suffering from brain tumour. They concluded that tumour’s properties can be analysed by infusing a small amount of sugar into it, and then check how much the tumour consume sugar. The tumour with more sugar consumption was more malignant, they said.

Nevertheless, this sugar-based technique may not be useful for People who are suffering from diabetes, researchers said. The team is gearing up to conduct another study on more patients to see further effects of sugar. It’s a much better option to ingest sugar and detect cancer rather than ingesting the strong side effect causing drugs. Although this could lead to a reduction in medical care costs, says Linda.
