Type 2 Diabetes, Obesity- a result of weak gut?
Type 2 Diabetes and Obesity may be triggered by a weak gut, says a new research study. Poor dietary diversity can lead to a poor ecosystem of gut bacteria in humans and this can lead to obesity and type-2 diabetes. So it’s time to pay extra attention to a well balanced and diverse diet, say the scientists.![51491976]()

Agricultural diversity has decreased greatly because of altered farming practices. These practices have diversified over the last 50 years and have led to a fall in dietary diversity. The human gut is now exposed to a poor diet and thus sees a weak ecosystem of bacteria, which may be a leading cause of developing diseases like Obesity and Type 2 Diabetes, say the researchers.
The microbiota in the gut is focused towards the metabolizing of specific dietary nutrients and they then produce “specific substances that act as metabolic signals in the host.” Recently it has been noticed that the human gut microbiota have diminished drastically and even other microbes that work towards a healthy gut have shown a fall in number, because of the diet alterations.
The research team from Pennington Biomedical Research Centre in US, which is actively involved in the study confirms that “Healthy individuals posses a diverse gut microbiota but a reduced microbiotic richness gives rise to Type 2 diabetes, obesity and inflammatory bowel disease.” So it’s time to make sure that you consume a well balanced healthy, diverse diet to keep the gut bacteria thriving and Obesity and Type 2 Diabetes at bay!
The findings of this recent study have been published in the journal Molecular Metabolism.
