Japan’s care centre trembles under knife attack, 19 dead

A care centre for the disabled in Japan was stunned and shocked when a berserk knife-yielding man stabbed almost 19 people to death in a ruthless manner. This may be taken as one of the worst casualties that Japan has seen in the postwar era.

A 26- year-old former employee of a care centre for the disabled in Sagamihara, near Tokyo, Japan went into a rage and is said to have stabbed many innocent people, reported the Japanese media. All hell broke loose in this disabled centre when this man grabbed a knife and went striking people at about 2.30 AM local time. Police reports state that almost 19 people died and about 28 more were injured in the incident and out of the injured people 12 can be put under the critical list. The injured have been taken to nearby hospitals so that they can be attended to properly. The media reports show ambulances standing outside the disabled care centre to offer help.

The alleged suspect is 26-year-old Satoshi Uematsu, who committed the heinous act at the “Tsukui Yamayuri-en facility in the Midori part of Sagamihara,” and then turned himself in at the police station voluntarily. It seems that he had been removed from his position at the care-centre His reason for taking such a drastic step was that he was furious because he had lost his job and . “Its better that disabled people disappear,” he stated. He was arrested on charges of attempted murder and unlawful entry.
