5days, 1832 fresh cases, Delhi taken in by dengue grip
The Delhi doctors are definitely sweating it out with dengue, it seems. Nearly 1832 fresh dengue cases have been brought to light in the last 5 days in Delhi. The municipalities have admitted in their data that the total cases of this year have been recorded as 9,438. Shocking, isn’t it?
The data recorded by the municipalities have admitted that the number of dengue deaths have now touched 30 from the 25 mentioned earlier, as data from October 3rd to October 8th ,reveals. The health officials of civic bodies have given a statement though, that the upswing is because of the delayed sample processing and better reporting by the hospitals.
It seems that 2nd October weekend had the results waiting in the laboratories because of the extended holidays. A senior Municipal Corporation official from South Delhi shared his views, “Hospitals in the outer Delhi area are reporting cases on time. Plus, the testing of samples got a bit delayed during the Gandhi Jayanti weekend so the cases of the previous week were not recorded in the last report.”
Delhi generally sees an upswing in dengue cases in October and November. Out of the total recorded 995 dengue cases of last year, nearly 762 were reported in the months of October and November. This time it seems Delhi shook fearsomely with dengue in September and nearly 6000 cases were diagnosed, say reports.
The director of the hospital administration of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation, Dr. D.K. Seth, stated “The cases fall as the temperature dips. This can be seen in the number of patients being admitted to our hospitals and those attending our fever clinics.”
The Bara Hindu Rao Hospital near Sabzi Mandi has confirmed that nearly 500 patients were visiting the fever clinic daily in September. But the numbers have drastically fallen since the temperature has fallen and now just about 289 dengue patients were in the hospital as compared to the 600 admitted around September 15th. Out of the 9438 cases that were recorded about 8221 were said to have got infected with dengue in Delhi and the rest brought the vector borne disease from other States around Delhi.
