Immigration: Tough credible migrant policy and return program needed, feels European Union
The penetrable borders of the European Union are a cause of concern for the country and this has prompted them to take a closer look at the “migrant return program”. They want to bring to task the people who are migrating to the country for economic gain and provide refuge to the migrants who are fleeing from the parent country because they need help, as their lives are under threat.
The European Union is bent double as it faces one of the worst refugee emergency situations since the World War II. The 28 European Union Nations are deciding to intensify deportation of migrants as they feel this issue needs immediate attendance. They are going to detain people who slip into their countries illegally for residency and are also planning to deport those people whose asylum is not justified, by special flights.
According to reports, European countries feel that they need to take this rigorous stance towards migrants because they want their people to give shelter to true refugees on humanitarian grounds and not encourage people entering their country for economic gain. The meeting amongst the 28 EU Nations concluded that “Increased return rates should act as a deterrent to irregular migration.”
It seems that more than 500,000 people reached EU countries this year for jobs. Out of this number, many did not get residency or asylum, but they did not head back to their countries, the reports confirmed that less than 40% went back.
According to Theresa May, “We need to see Europe upping its game” and Bernard Cazeneuve,Interior Minister of France quipped “If there is no return policy there is no basis for the refugee policy.” He also gave a statement that people from developing nations rush abroad because they need to live a better life in the European countries. He felt that more personnel needed to be deputed at the EU’s borders and the best way is to have an “autonomous international corps” body which could handle emergencies when needed.
When Greece and Italy had faced the serious migrant crisis last week, Frontex had asked for an extra of 775 staff members. The Frontex Border agency could be helped by the member states as they can contribute personnel depending on their personal financial conditions.
The French officials have asked for an autonomous European border guard corps body to take care of crisis. Plenty of migrants find their way to the EU through Balkans. The Balkan nations have often had tiffs over the refugees entering through their countries. The EU members felt that cooperation was imperative from the nations that are surrounding Syria as it is suffering deeply, under the throes of internal war.
Bert Koenders, the Dutch Foreign Minsiter felt “That is much more efficient than throwing the problems at one another. It is a complex humanitarian crisis demanding concrete cooperation.” The EU has also allocated additional funding for Syrian refugees, to deal with the refugee tragedy.
