Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg have been blessed with a baby girl on Tuesday, and they have made an astonishing pledge. They are donating 99% of their Facebook shares to charity, say reports.
An ecstatically thankful Zuckerberg has announced in a Face book note on his page addressed to his new born baby girl, claiming “We will give 99% of our Facebook shares — currently about $45 billion — during our lives,” he stated to his little bundle of joy, who the couple have named Max Chan Zuckerberg.
Mark Zuckerberg the co-founder of Facebook is one of the world’s richest men, and he has stated that he is not going to give away everything right away but will plan the charity in a way that it carries on “over the couple’s “lives””. Securities filing by Mark have declared that he will be giving almost $ 1 billion annually over the next 3 years.
A new body has been set up by the couple and the money that the two have pledged to charity will be managed by this. The endeavor has been named as the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. Talking about this vision, Mark Zuckerberg states to his daughter in a long letter “Our initial areas of focus will be personalized learning, curing disease, connecting people and building strong communities.”
Mark , aged only 31 has shown great spunk adding “Two main ideas have led us to start early. First is that we have a lot to learn and giving, like anything else, takes practice to do effectively. So if we want to be good at it in 10-15 years, we should start now. Second is that any good we do will hopefully compound over time. If we can help children get a better education now then they can grow up and help others too in the time we might have otherwise waited to get started.” This was said in reply to a congratulatory note posted by Melinda Gates, Bill Gates’s wife. The Gates couple has also donated almost $28 billion to charity for addressing health issues worldwide, and are said to be an inspiration for Mark Zuckerberg and his family.
Zuckerberg had dropped out of Harvard but he met his better half , Priscilla there, and recently the couple has been generous with donations, charities and investments for the sake of education . Zuckerberg had set the tongues rolling when he had announced a paternity leave for two months a while back.
