Northeastern India shakes with huge earthquake, nearly 6 die, 100 injured
It has been a shocking Monday morning for the people at Manipur. India’s whole North Eastern region was rocked by an earthquake with 6.7 magnitude, at about 4.36 A.M, early in the morning and nearly 6 people died and 100 were left bruised and injured in the catastrophe. The Government jumped quick into action with relief measures.
People of Imphal were left gaping with bated breath as their houses rocked, walls collapsed and huge cracks formed in the walls of their homes, when they stood enveloped in the throes of a massive earthquake, early Monday morning. The epicenter of the earthquake was reported to be in Noney village, in the Tamenglong district, Manipur, stated the Indian Meteorological department. The village is nearly 35 kms from Imphal. The Government is assessing the present earthquake situation and is getting ready to extend their help to the victims who have been affected by the earthquake; this was confirmed by the Principal Secretary Suresh Babu.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is continuously checking out the situation has already spoken to Shri Nabam Tuki, the CM of Arunachal Pardesh. He has also tweeted that the Government has asked an NDRF team to start from Guwahati to reach out to the victims of the earthquake affected areas. He has tweeted “Spoke to Rajnath ji, who is in Assam, on the situation arising due to the earthquake & asked him to oversee the situation.”
